The Guruvayur Temple in Thrissur district, one of the most revered pilgrimage centers in Kerala celebrates Vishu with deep spiritual significance and devotion. The Vishukkani Darshan considered the most auspicious ritual of the festival will take place on April 15, 2026, beginning early in the morning. Devotees believe that witnessing the sacred “Kani” — an arrangement of auspicious items including fruits, vegetables, grains, gold and the idol of Lord Krishna is a divine blessing that ensures prosperity, abundance and good fortune throughout the year.
At Guruvayur Temple, the Vishukkani Darshan starts at 2:55 AM and continues until 3:55 AM attracting thousands of devotees from across the state and beyond. The temple opens its sanctum doors to reveal the beautifully decorated deity of Sree Guruvayurappan, offering a spiritually uplifting sight that marks the beginning of the Malayalam New Year. Following the Vishukkani, traditional rituals such as Nirmalyam, Abhishekam and other daily poojas are performed with great devotion and adherence to age-old customs.
Special arrangements are made for devotees who have booked the Sreekovil Neyy Vilakku allowing them darshan from 7:00 AM onwards. Due to the heavy rush on Vishu day, temple authorities may regulate the flow of devotees to ensure a smooth and peaceful darshan experience. Another highlight of the celebration is the Prasada Oottu where devotees are served customary dishes symbolizing sharing and community harmony.
